Yeah I know, its a TV show but its really really good in what it shows and that is the toughness of Paratroopers in combat during WWII. Episode 2's D-Day paratrooper drop behind enemy lines is breathtaking and as stunning as the opening D-Day beach scene in Saving Private Ryan.

Get the extended version, things make a little more sense. I actually make it a point to tell my class about this battle because of this movie. Modern Warfare in all its bloody glory. Truly riveting and engaging from start to end. The danger feels real and so do the heroics, it is truly a must own by anyone who claims to be a war movie buff.

When I watched this movie my jaw almost hit the floor. Wow. What a truly realistic film from South Korea about the Korean War, which in America has pretty much become a forgotten war. The combat scenes are stellar and filmed on the same par as Saving Private Ryan. Yes, sometimes the dialogue is little dopy, but I blame it on the translation. Still, it is a serious must have for war movie buffs.

Yeah, I know I know, its not very historically accurate but I dont care. The opening battle scene of the Romans facing off against the Germanic tribes is epic. The opening battle, the gladitorial fights and Russell Crowes spot on performance are somethings that most movies about ancient times try to copy (along with Braveheart).

Many people had problems with this series. I think it was because they were expecting Band of Brothers 2. I actually like that they switched up the plot to be completely different then BOB. The Battle scenes are awesome and intense. Episode 5's Pelileliu landing is especially riveting. Most of the events are 100% true and its the first real depiction of the Pacific theatre of WWII.

This is a Russian film that shows realistically the carnage and frustrations of fighting the Russian-Afghanistan War. While the events in question may not be entirely true, the overall feel of what the War was like is full on in your face because it has scenes that rivals Black Hawk Down and We Were Soldiers. Deal with the subtitles and get it, if you are a serious war movie buff.

Besides having fairly accurate Napoleonic War ship-to-ship combat twice!!!, the rest of the movie is awesome in presenting the historical life of people living during this time. But the fighting is brutal and in your face for a PG=13 movie and I still love the sound the cannonballs make as they shriek around the room via surround sound.

Great modern classic on WWII air war that was made at a time when war films were not all the rage. The whole cast is fantastic and the air combat is gripping and heartpounding, made even more so when you realize that this was made at a time before CGI

This is China's answer to Saving Private Ryan and Tae Guk GI. The battle scenes are incredibly realistic and relentless to the core. It ranks lower because of the second half of the movie which is a little bit slower and underdeveloped. But, this is a great war film that depicts the intense struggle of the Chinese Civil War and its communist takeover aftermath.

Yeah, its a little overrated but its still a powerful film. This is more of an Anti-Vietnam War movie, but it has some stellar battle scenes that showcases the frustration of the soldiers trying to fight this war. Two big personal beefs with the film doesn't move it up higher.

This was a movie that I picked up based on peoples recommendations. Its about the Bosnian War and it is just a plain punch to the face in how it accurately presents what went on over there. It shows all the carnage and inhumanity of the conflict that turned friend against friend. Watch it and be blown away.

This is a different type of war film. This is about the last days of Hitler and the Third Reich during WWII. There is not a lot of battle scenes but the intensity and insanity by the actor portraying Hitler is mesmerizing. What makes it even more awesome is that it is a German film, which for them to take on such a touchy subject is just short of stellar.

This should be the companion piece for the German movie Stalingrad. However, this is the Russian perspective of the bloodiest battle of WWII. Even though its from the Russian perspective, the actors are English speakers, but it is still ferocious and brutal. Watching these two movies together will give you an excellent feeling of what this battle was and why it was awful.

This is based loosely on historical facts about the French and Indian War. The romance feels right and not just plopped in. The massacre of the British formation and the siege by the French against a British fort is really intense and massive in scope. Bloody exciting good times that gets the blood pumping. Many people have this, but its great stuff and should be included on this list.

This is a well-developed BBC film that tells the true story of Jack Kippling's involvement in WWI. Those who like wall-to-wall action will not like this movie. But, those who like plot development and character development will feel emotional despair while watching the hardships and horrors that Jack, strongly portrayed by the Harry Potter actor, suffers in training and in the trenches.

This is also a little bit more dated, but it is amazing and intense, because it lays out the complexity of the failed Operation Market-Garden by the allies during WWII. The British tank battle against German 88's and infantry is so massively stellar that I show it to my classes to get their blood pumping when we talk about WWII. Its a classic for good reason, get it.

This unexpected surprise realistically depicts the horrible struggles of guerilla warfare from both sides of the Russian-Afghanistan War. The use of a real Russian tank and the battle scene at the beginning makes it a must own. However, you need to deal with a slower build up of plot and the fact that the "Russians" speak only English to really enjoy this.

A stellar foreign film depicting the brutality and stupidity of the Bosnian War. This is another one that if you are seeking wall-to-wall action you are going to be disappointed. However, the plot development and character build up is massive and pleasing. Plus, the ambush at the beginning is a well-done bloody surprise that makes this worth owning.

Great Canadian film about their huge contribution to WWI. Many people complain about the dopey love story and usually I would agree with them, but in this film I feel like it actually worked. The battle scenes are brutal and filmed with bloody flair. Much more developed in plot then my other films, but like Blessed With Fire and Admiral, the battles pay off big.
